The construction and repair works of the Cross-border Centre for joint environmental monitoring in BSB continue. The Centre will be located in the town of Ahtopol, in an existing building, which is owned by Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski” and is provided for use by the Association for Culture, Technology, Education and Development – University of Plovdiv – Strandzha (ACTORPUS).
The building is being repaired within the framework of the project BSB ECO MONITORING – Joint Monitoring for Environmental Protection in BSB countries, funded by the European Union through ENI CBC Black Sea Basin Cross Border Cooperation programme 2014 -2020.
The Centre will form the basis for cooperation between scientists, researchers, local institutions, environmental communities and experts from the four project countries. The project funds will be used to equip the centre with all necessary modern facilities, infrastructure and information systems that provide data on the ecological status of natural ecosystems in the targeted protected areas. The Centre will have research and development laboratories, a training halls and a hall for public events (press conferences, working meetings with local communities and target groups, workshops of experts, meetings with project partners, etc.).
The construction and repair works started in 2020 and their planned duration is 12 months.
